Savor Rio’s culinary delights amidst breathtaking views
Surprisingly, Rio de Janeiro boasts only a handful of restaurants and bars that fully embrace its countless stunning views. This could be due to affluent individuals buying up the prime vistas, city regulations restricting businesses on hillsides, or simply the challenges of running a restaurant with high rental costs in such a sought after location.
Rio has around a dozen enchanting places where you can sit and enjoy unforgettable views while indulging in a leisurely lunch or dinner. Here are our personal favorites:
Aprazível, in Santa Teresa, offers a panorama of Rio’s north side. Dine in the midst of a lush forest, surrounded by beautiful trees and a sweeping view.
Botafogo Praia Shopping Mall
For lunch with a fabulous view of the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain, head to the Botafogo Praia Shopping Mall. If you go to the top floor, you’ll find the food court which not only serves delightful Brazilian fast food but also positions you front and center to marvel at the majesty of Sugarloaf.
Arp Bar de Praia
When visiting Ipanema, a particular restaurant with a not-to-be-missed view is the beachside Arp Bar de Praia in Arpoador. This gem offers fusion cuisine with a focus on breakfast and brunch.
Towards the end of the beach, close to the rock, take a seat at the restaurant underneath the hotel and enjoy a breathtaking view of Ipanema, Leblon, and the Twin Brothers Mountains. During the day, the view is absolutely beautiful, whilst the landscape transforms into a captivating scene at sunset. The beach is still visible at night, although the mountain is less illuminated, and the live music during sunset adds that extra touch.
Another fabulous place in Ipanema is Belmonte, located on Famigiano Guiado Street and Avenida Vieira Solto. This two-storey bar offers an excellent view of Ipanema Beach from its top floor, perfect for enjoying the warm nights and people watching.
Hotel Praia Ipanema
For Sunday brunches and an incredible view, visit Hotel Praia Ipanema. Positioned between Ipanema and Leblon, it offers a penthouse experience where, for between one and two hundred reais, you can enjoy an impressive brunch with an unforgettable view and almost bottomless mimosas.
Another exceptional venue for a happy hour or after-dinner drinks is the Fairmont Hotel. On their 4th or 6th floor, I can’t remember, is their highly rated Spirit Bar. This luxurious hotel offers a pool, live music, and a stunning panorama of Copacabana that you can enjoy at any time during the day, as well as the amazing sunsets.
