Caldinho de frutos (sea food stew)

Another one of my favorite places, even though it doesn’t qualify as a restaurant, is a bar called Rainha . It is really a botequim, which is a Brazilian version of a bar. It is located on Rua Dias Ferreira in Leblon. Its chef has been one of Brazil’s top chefs for the last 10 years. Pedro Artagão has been winning all kinds of awards internationally and nationally, and has started his own bar, which is a huge success. The beer is also one of Rio’s best. The torresmo, the caldinho de frutos do mar, and the octopus are just amazing. The caldinho de frutos do mar is a seafood stew served in a mug, and a great price at just around $6.

Why bar do mineiro in Santa Teresa is best for feijoada and caipirinhas?

Bar do Mineiro: Affordable feijoada and caipirinhas in Santa Teresa.

If you want to eat an incredible feijoada, then head over to Bar do Mineiro in Santa Teresa. The place is a bar that has amazing feijoada at a very affordable price, while the decoration is very in line with the bohemian slash artsy fartsy crowd usually found in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa. The caipirinhas they make are also incredible, and they are, in my opinion, the center of Santa Teresa (map). It’s worth going there and starting from there. Not after eating feijoada, as you won’t last long on your feet.

Another institution in Rio is Sushi Leblon, Of course, this recommendation is only for those who want to explore the Brazilian version of sushi. Sushi Leblon has, for the last 25 years, been the only restaurant guaranteed to have a line outside every single day. Brazil’s TV stars can’t cut in line, and politicians can’t cut in line; it’s just highly disputed. So show up as early as possible; maybe 6 o’clock any time after that, and you may get stuck for an hour and a half outside. They do innovation on sushi, stuff that would irritate a lot of Japanese, stuff that would irritate the Japanese, but somehow it just works, because it’s simply marvelous food. A little pricey, but not for sushi especially compared to international sushi prices like in Europe or the US.
